Many Real estate agents do not know that Naples, Marco Island cities and Collier County require a permit for the installation of a radon mitigation system.
Homebuyers for their own protection must insist that the seller provide them with a copy of the required permits obtained when they installed a radon mitigation system.
Many home sellers do not know electrical and mechanical permits are required. Some certified radon mitigation businesses serving the Naples and Marco Island areas avoid permits to save money and don't want 'their' systems inspected.
ALL radon mitigation systems installed in Naples or Marco Island must be reported to the Florida Department of Health by the certified radon mitigation business that installed them. The report must include the first radon test level (pre) and the post radon test level and the name of the RADON MEASUREMENT BUSINESS that performed the tests.
Reputable radon mitigation businesses will have an independent radon measurement business perform the clearance or post mitigation radon test.

Marco Island single family homes and high rise condos often need more than just a mechanical ventilation system to lower elevated radon levels properly.
Certified businesses are required to report their activities. Your radon test report should include the following information:
1) the name and Florida certification number of the radon business,
2) the name and Florida certification number of the individual that performed the test,
3) the date and time of the start and end of the test, and
4) the type of device used.
Certified businesses are required to report their activities. A mitigation contractor must provide:
1) mitigation system labels,
2) a visual or audible device to automatically indicate system failure,
3) soil gas exhaust vents above the eave of the roof for active soil depressurization systems, and
4) written instructions on the operation and maintenance of the system.
Unfortunately some inspectors are performing radon tests in Naples and are not certified by the FL DOH to do so. Always insist that the person placing & picking up your radon test is certified to do so. Naples homeowners and homebuyers should also be aware that their radon report MUST come from a Certified Radon Measurement Business.
